How to use Image Viewer

  1. 1. Drop in an image. Add the photo or graphic you want to open, in any common format. It renders at full quality directly in the browser as soon as it loads.
  2. 2. Review the displayed image. The image appears alongside its dimensions, giving you a quick way to confirm what a file actually contains without opening a separate application.
  3. 3. Keep or download the file. Nothing is modified during viewing, so the original file remains untouched. Download it again if you need a copy for another purpose.

When to use Image Viewer

Image Viewer opens an image directly in the browser so you can look at it and check its dimensions without launching a separate photo application. It handles the simple, common need of just wanting to see what is inside a file.

  • Previewing a file before sending it. You downloaded an image attachment and want to confirm it looks right and is the correct photo before forwarding it to someone else.
  • Checking an unfamiliar file format. A file has an image extension you do not commonly work with, and opening it here confirms it renders correctly and shows its actual pixel dimensions.
  • Viewing an image without installing extra software. You are on a machine without a full photo viewer installed, and opening the file directly in the browser gets you a quick look without extra setup.

About the Image Viewer tool

Image Viewer runs as plain JavaScript in your browser tab, with no server behind it. Open and view an image. Whatever you put in stays on your device from start to finish.

The tool is part of EditSafely's Image Tools section, 200 single-purpose utilities built around the same idea: open the page, get the result, keep your data to yourself.

There is nothing to configure. Provide the input and the result appears on its own. The finished file is put together in browser memory and saved with the Download button, so it never touches a server on the way to your disk. A worked example further down the page shows exactly what the tool produces for a real input.

That local-first design has practical benefits beyond privacy. The tool keeps working on a flaky connection once the page has loaded, results are instant because nothing round-trips to a server, and it is safe to use with confidential material.

Frequently asked questions

Is Image Viewer free to use?

Yes, it is completely free. All 2,658 tools on EditSafely work without an account, a subscription or usage limits.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

Everything happens locally. Your browser downloads the tool's code once, then does all the processing itself; nothing you enter is transmitted, stored or logged. You can even go offline after the page loads and it will still work.

Which files does Image Viewer accept?

It accepts images in any common format (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF and more). There is no file size cap imposed by a server; very large files are limited only by your device's memory.

Do I need to sign up or install anything?

No. The tool works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. There is no account to create, no extension to add and no software to install.

How do I save the output?

Click the Download button once the result is ready. The file is built in your browser's memory and handed straight to your downloads folder, without passing through a server.
