How to use Rotate a PNG
- 1. Upload the PNG. Add the image you want to pivot, such as photo.png, so the tool can rotate it around its center point.
- 2. Set the rotation angle. Enter Angle (° clockwise), such as -3 to nudge an image slightly counter-clockwise, or 90 and 180 for standard quarter and half turns.
- 3. Choose the corner treatment. Toggle Transparent background on to let rotated corners become see-through, or leave it off and pick a Background color (if not transparent) to fill them instead.
- 4. Download the rotated PNG. Save the result, such as photo.png rotated 3 degrees counter-clockwise with transparent corners, once the angle and corner fill look right.
When to use Rotate a PNG
Rotate a PNG pivots an image around its center by 90 degrees, 180 degrees or any custom angle, filling the newly exposed corners with transparency or a chosen color. Use it for anything from a full quarter turn to a small straightening tweak.
- Straightening a slightly tilted photo. A phone photo comes out a few degrees off level. Rotating photo.png by a small negative angle with transparent corners straightens the horizon without cropping the frame.
- Correcting a sideways scanned document. A scanner captures a page sideways, needing a full 90 degree turn to read normally. Rotating it corrects the orientation in one step.
- Turning a graphic upside down for a design effect. A poster design calls for an element flipped 180 degrees as a visual motif. Rotating the source PNG by that exact angle produces the inverted layout.

About the Rotate a PNG tool
Rotate a PNG does its work locally, right in the browser. Pivot the PNG around its center by 90°, 180° or any custom angle. There is no upload step, no queue and no account, and your data never travels over the network.
It belongs to the PNG Tools collection on EditSafely, a set of 108 small, focused PNG utilities that share the same instant, private workspace.
You can shape the output with 3 settings, including Angle (° clockwise), Transparent background and Background color (if not transparent), and the result refreshes the moment you change one. The finished file is put together in browser memory and saved with the Download button, so it never touches a server on the way to your disk. A worked example further down the page shows exactly what the tool produces for a real input.
Running locally also makes the tool fast and dependable: results appear as you type or drop a file, there is no server outage that can take it down mid-task, and confidential data can be processed without a second thought.
