How to use Right-align a String

  1. 1. Paste your text. Enter the lines you want aligned into the input pane, such as one, three and seven, each of a different length.
  2. 2. Set the target width. Enter a value in Width, or leave it at 0 to align every line to the length of the longest line in the input.
  3. 3. Copy the right-aligned result. Copy the output pane's result, where leading spaces have been added so every line ends flush at the same right margin.

When to use Right-align a String

Right-align a String pads every line with leading spaces so they all end at the same right margin, the opposite of the usual left-aligned default. It's for formatting numeric columns, receipts and any plain-text layout that reads better with a flush right edge.

  • Aligning a numeric column in a plain-text report. A list of dollar amounts of varying length looks messy left-aligned in a monospace report. Right-aligning them makes the decimal points and digits line up cleanly.
  • Formatting a receipt-style layout. A plain-text receipt lists item names on the left and prices that should line up on the right. Right-aligning the price column gives it that familiar receipt look.
  • Building a right-justified label list. A settings panel mockup shows labels of different lengths that should all end flush against a colon on the right. Right-aligning the labels first previews that layout.
  • Matching a fixed-width legacy report format. An old system expects numeric fields right-aligned to an exact column width. Setting Width to that fixed value reproduces the expected format from freshly generated values.

About the Right-align a String tool

Right-align a String does its work locally, right in the browser. Align every line of a string to the right margin. There is no upload step, no queue and no account, and your data never travels over the network.

It belongs to the String Tools collection on EditSafely, a set of 159 small, focused String utilities that share the same instant, private workspace.

You can shape the output with the Width (0 = longest line) setting, and the result refreshes the moment you change it. A worked example further down the page shows exactly what the tool produces for a real input.

Running locally also makes the tool fast and dependable: results appear as you type or drop a file, there is no server outage that can take it down mid-task, and confidential data can be processed without a second thought.

Frequently asked questions

Is Right-align a String free to use?

Yes, it is completely free. All 2,658 tools on EditSafely work without an account, a subscription or usage limits.

Is it safe to paste sensitive or confidential data?

Everything happens locally. Your browser downloads the tool's code once, then does all the processing itself; nothing you enter is transmitted, stored or logged. You can even go offline after the page loads and it will still work.

How much text can I process at once?

There is no fixed limit. Because the work happens on your own device rather than on a shared server, the practical ceiling is your machine's memory, which comfortably handles inputs far larger than typical online tools allow.

Do I need to sign up or install anything?

No. The tool works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. There is no account to create, no extension to add and no software to install.

How do I use the result?

The output panel has a one-click copy button, and you can keep refining the input while you work; the result updates in place as you type.
